GOOGLE PLANS FREE WI-FI AT TRAIN STATIONS

CEO announced plan to provide Wi-Fi in 400 stations across India

Google CEO, Sundar Pichai announced a plan to provide high-speed public Wi-Fi in 400 train stations across India. The announcement coincided with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the company's headquarters in Mountain View, California.

Google will work closely with Indian Railways and RailTel, which provides Internet service along the railway lines. The first stations are expected to come online in the next few months, and 100 stations will be connected by the end of next year, said Pichai.

The undertaking is India's largest public Wi-Fi project, he added. With 100 stations online, the project will make Wi-Fi available to more than 10 million people who travel through the stations each day.
